As part of an “Endangered Species’ project, 20 level 1 students accompanied by two faculty members, spent an enjoyable and informative morning at The Arabian Wildlife Center in Sharjah. The center houses three attractions: The Wildlife (zoological) Center, Botanical Gardens and Natural History Museum. The students visited the zoo and museum.

The fully indoor wildlife centre, offered the students a close up of the diverse animal life of the Arabian Peninsula. The tour of the zoo began with snakes and other reptiles, followed by birds and rodents. Thereafter, a dimmed enclosure gave an exciting view of nocturnal animals, mammals and bats, before a section looking out onto a large outdoor area filled with oryx, hyenas, monkeys and an Arabian leopard (the other 14 are not on display and in the breeding section). The trip ended at the National History Museum featuring exhibitions of the earth’s geological history, including very impressive fossils.

The Level 1 Foundations students were able to identify different species, as well as explore the various issues that place fauna in jeopardy of becoming extinct.

A place well worth visiting!
