Ras Al Kaimah Women’s College Holds “Empowerment Day” and “Reading is Power” Events for Foundations Level 1

RAK foundations L1 students participated in an inspiring “Empowerment Day” on Tuesday 14th April and “Reading is Power” day on Wednesday 15th. Empowerment Day heralded presentations and talks by inspiring women from RKW and the community.

RKW stars in particular motivated with their stories and recognized the wonderful support they have had from the institution over the course of their studies.

Ms Suaad Alhammadi, RKW student and young ambassador to Korea gave an inspirational and uplifting presentation about her experiences as a student and young ambassador. Self-taught in Korean and head-hunted by their embassy she encouraged and excited the students. “I love Korea anime now I want to do this for my job” said an excited L1 student, Khawla.

Ameera Almarzooqi, RKW student and explorer/traveler to Antarctica explained how she personally pursued the dream of going on the environmental expedition. She represented the UAE and RAK colleges along with 28 other countries. She strives to educate her fellow citizens about how to be green, sustainable and responsible.

Baddreyya Ahmed Hasan, RKW student, poet and police officer juggles full time work and study. She described how she manages this work life balance and how she copes as a young woman in a masculine institution. Her story and poem brought raucous laughter to the audience and great applause for girl power.

Amna Murad, RKW engineering student, inspired the girls to think bigger and harder about the direction they take in life, how through study you can make a big change to your country.

Fatima Jota Suleiman Jota, nursery school teacher and translator, shared her knowledge and experience of working with pre-school children. She shared stories, passions and dreams of how her job makes a real difference to the lives of the children and their families in the community.

The students participated in an active Q&A with the speakers and were very positive about the morning. Mahra stated, “I feel strong now”.

The afternoon brought more empowerment activities with two short documentary films by Emirati women Aisha Abdullah and Reem Almeqbali. Followed by “discovering yourself” activities led by Dr Aisha Al Naqbi. Fatima expressed “now I can understand me and how I can study and understand more”.

Day two focused on Reading is Power and RKW had the privilege of hosting esteemed female Emirati authors Maitha Al Khayyat and Aamna Al Mansoori. Shaikha Almehairi of the Cultural Research Centre Manager, Abu Dhabi was also a valued guest.

The excellent support of RAK Colleges Director Dr Ali Al Mansoori and Foundation’s Chair Shamma Al Naqbi ensured the event was a resounding success.
