Sharjah College win Exciting Inter-College Quiz for Women Students

May 18, 2014

Al Ain Women’s College had the honour of hosting the annual Inter-College quiz for female students on Wednesday, May 14. Once again it proved to be a popular and successful event attended by Tim Smith, the Executive Dean of Foundations.

Six colleges from across the HCT system were represented by teams of four contestants: Al Ain Women’s College, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Each team’s knowledge of the UAE, Mathematics, English Language and General Knowledge was rigorously put to the test. Asking the questions were Mark Harrower and Iain Murphy from the Al Ain Colleges English faculty. Douglas Henderson, Foundations Supervisor from the Al Ain Colleges introduced the event and announced the scores and final result at the end. The Al Ain Colleges Director, Hamsa Saleh Al Ammari and the Executive Dean of Foundations congratulated the winning team and awarded the trophy and medals.

The lead changed hands several times in the early stages; however, slowly but surely, the strong Sharjah team began to pull ahead and by the end had a clear advantage over their competitors after some clever use of the ‘Joker’ system. Victory for Sharjah Women’s team means that they did ‘the double’ this year; the men’s team having won their equivalent quiz last week. The ‘home’ crowd was delighted to see Al Ain finish in a very creditable runners up place while Ras Al Khaimah Women’s finished in third.

Congratulations to all six teams for making the quiz so exciting and competitive and for playing with such good spirit throughout. Thank you also to all HCT staff who helped out in different ways, whether it was coaching their team in the weeks leading up to the quiz, or duties carried out on the day to make it such a successful and enjoyable event for all. The morning was rounded off with an excellent and well deserved buffet lunch.
