On Sunday the 26th of April, 2015, students from the Humanitarian Club were invited to meet with Her Highness Shaikha Hessa Bint Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum at Zaabel Ladies Club to discuss the Rwanda project which is scheduled to take place in June, 2015. Among the students who attended this event were Ghadeer Hamad, Alia Abdurahim and Afra Ahmed, three DWC foundation students who subsequently drafted this report.

Upon her arrival at the club, Her Highness Shaikha Hessa Bint Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum welcomed the students in the Majlis and invited the students to elaborate on their progress with the project. The students presented what they have done so far; including designing logos, banners, lesson plans, training manuals and obtaining sponsorship for the iPads required. They also briefed her on what the trip itself will entail.

Her Highness Shaikha Hessa Bint Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum was very receptive and excited about the trip. She congratulated the students on their hard work and efforts and informed them that she is excited to hear about their experience when they come back from Rwanda.

Ghadeer, a Foundation level three student at DWC shared the students’ experiences in communicating with the students in Rwanda by email, and what they had already learnt from each other. As Ghadeer noted: “I told her that I know it’s difficult but nothing is difficult if the members of humanitarian club decide to do something so we connect with people there and tell them to find student who has a email or any way to connect with us, and around two weeks maybe we did it and find the emails and start to connect with a new student from Rwanda and get more knowledge between us and introduce about our culture and countries and what is the most popular things there.”

Finally, the students thanked her for her support with the project and informed her that they were very proud of the opportunity and trust afforded to them to be able to travel to Rwanda and represent their country.

The club committee is extremely grateful for the continued support from the college and the departments in allowing our students to participate in such valuable experiences.
