Spring is in the air and the atmosphere in the Library at FWC was buzzing with activity on Monday, March 13th. To celebrate a fun-filled week of activities during Library week, a group of nearly 100 students and their Foundation teachers gathered together to listen, recite and even rap at FWCs annual Poetry Day celebrating ‘The Colours of Life’. Foundation students from levels 1-3 bravely recited some of the favorite poems in both English and Arabic. Students and staff were also encouraged to share poems they had written themselves. Poetry themes included the UAE, learning, family, love, money and of course, food! The show was introduced by a lovely recitation of a Nigerian poem entitled “Peace” in Yoruba, English and Arabic by Abbey Abiodun, Denise Josiah and Amal Al Yammahi. Ali Saeed shared two of his personal poems in Arabic. Ahmed translated the well-known Emirati poem about mothers, creating subtitles in English as part of  a multimedia presentation. Mamon Al Ghannam and Javed Mohamed also shared their favourite poems in Arabic and Urdu, creating a joyful and very international performance. Along with poetry recitations, the audience was entertained by FWC’s first female rapper, Sue Munroe dedicating ‘The Cheesecake Rap’ to a very enthusiastic group of students and staff. A huge thanks is extended to the students, teaching staff, library staff and administration and students for making the event a success.
