The New Library at FWC

The New Library at FWC

November 26, 2014

After the renovation of the existing library, students and staff at Fujairah Women’s College are now enjoying the use of a state-of-the-art facility that offers the highest quality of service. In addition to providing sufficient reading areas, pleasant lighting and acoustics, the new library also has an ambiance that encourages its use and provides the students and faculty with a unique experience.

George Selvaraj, the library assistant, : “The renovated library has certainly brought about a positive change in our students. The ambience and the open space  entice the patrons.. Our gate count has been off the charts and what can we say about our circulation stats, we are on the top. Teachers can book in their classes. Individual study rooms  cater to  groups of students who are doing project work. Comfortable seating arrangements and above all helpful staff to cater to the needs of our valuable clients.”

The library has also offered the Foundation students the chance to read lots of books as part of the M-reader program. Vicky Allen and Dr. Jim Ishler said: “Extensive reading has become a priority for the Foundations department at HCT-Fujairah. Last semester, a pilot program was started that required students to read large numbers of books at a level that was easy for them to comprehend. After they completed a book, they would take a quiz on m-Reader, an online program that quizzes for general understanding, tracks the number of words and the level of a book a student reads, encouraging the student to gradually move to higher level books. We are continuing to implement this pilot during the Fall semester in our beautiful new library where students feel very comfortable to just go there and read!”

Aisha Haroun, a Foundation student in Level 1, said about her experience with the new library: “ I like the place and the colors! It’s big and there are many interesting books everywhere. I come here every day and sometimes I come with my friends to do the reading project.”

Soon after the new library opened its doors for students and faculty, it hosted some interesting events. One of these was the poetry session in which Arabic and English poems were recited by the Foundation students and staff. One of the Foundation teachers read a beautiful poem of her own. The ample space and the pleasant environment made this event  a beneficial and lovely experience for everyone.
