Al Ain Colleges Celebrate Library Week 2015

May 4, 2015

Students, staff and the Al Ain Community joined together to celebrate Library Week 2015 from April 19th to 23rd at the Al Ain Colleges. The theme of this year’s Library Week was ‘Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library’.

A highlight of library week was the talk by Ali Al Saloom famed for his ‘Ask Ali’ advice column. This talk, entitled ‘My Environment, My Identity’, was presented to a packed auditorium at Al Ain Women’s College. Ali entertained the crowd with his engaging presentation while imparting words of wisdom to the students. The talk was received with rapturous applause and Ali took the time to answer questions and to interact with students afterwards.

Magrudy’s Book Fair proved a hit with students and staff alike. Readers from Al Ain Women’s College had the opportunity to purchase both English and Arabic fiction and non-fiction throughout the week.

Three hundred young readers from local Kindergartens were treated to a variety of activities including storytelling, digital English-language games and crafts with the help of education students at Al Ain Women’s College library.

The Digital Treasure Hunt at Al Ain Men’s College tested the information-seeking skills and competitive nature of our students as they used QR Codes on their iPads to find information on libraries around the world.

A workshop entitled ‘Making Google Work For You’ was presented by the library to visiting school principals and counsellors to improve internet search skills. Visitors were encouraged to join the library as Community Borrowers with the gift of free, one-year membership to the library.

The Community Service class displayed their work in the library while bringing a pop-up charity shop to the library to raise funds for good causes at home and abroad.

The Book Exchange afforded staff and students the opportunity to spring clean their book cases while discovering literature recommended by their peers. Other events and activities included the MReader Book Review, Spelling Bee and animation screenings.

We are already looking forward to the next Library Week!library 2 library 3
