Keyboard Settings and Guided Access in iOS 8

Many students have already updated their iPads to iOS 8. The keyboard settings and guided access are slightly different from iOS 7. These steps explain the process. You can download a PDF version from here.

Keyboard Settings

1. Keyboard is still under General in Settings

2. However, the Keyboard options have changed

3. Turn off Auto-capitalization, Auto-Correction and Predictive

Guided Access

1. Guided Access is still under Accessibility in Settings

2. Click on Guided Access, which is still in the same place.

3. Switch it on (as before), click on Passcode Settings

4. Click “Set Guided Access Passcode”

5. Type in the Guided Access Password, twice

5. Open HCT Assess App, and go to BlackBoard Learn

7. Triple click the Home button to switch on Guided Access

8. Triple click Home again and enter the passcode to show Guided Access options screen.

9. Click on “Hardware Buttons Options”

10. Disable Sleep/Wake Button, Volume Buttons and Motion. Leave Keyboards on

11. Click on “Time Limit Options” and ensure it is switched off

11. Finally make sure “Touch” is switched on

12. If the exam is administered using Safari, click on “Safari Options”

and Switch off “Dictionary Lookup”

And you’re done!
