Meet Gary Pathare of DMC

Gary Pathare started teaching English in Barcelona in 1990, and has taught at DMC since 2001, with a one-year sanity-enhancing break in Italy. His master’s dissertation (TESOL, Newcastle University) focused on teaching spelling to Foundations students. Gary is a senior CEPA item writer, a CELTA trainer, a keen cook and guitar player, and a father of two. HIs main teaching interests are in finding new ways to teach, and writing innovative, practical English teaching materials to support these ideas. With his wife Emma, Gary has written writing support materials aimed specifically at the Middle East for the Headway Plus series, and the course book New Headway Academic Skills: Speaking, Listening and Study Skills. In-house materials include the HCT publication Target IELTS General Training Writing Task 1 and the Target English materials project which won the UAE IT Challenge in 2006. Gary enjoys developing and sharing teaching materials and ideas with his department and the HCT, through publications and presentations. Currently, he is writing two extensive sets of course materials for Foundations level 4 reading and writing.
